The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Music Theory
I must confess I haven’t made my way through all of this book and probably never will, not because there is anything wrong with it but because I pretty much knew about most of it’s content before I bought it. So why did I buy it? Well, like all information junkies I’ve just got to have more more more!
This isn’t to say I’m not familiar with the book as it has become my all time go-to for any time I need a reference on music theory. It is very well written, well explained and I have full respect for the author Michael Miller for doing a great job on this confusing and complicated subject. I’m not going to waste any time telling you the contents, I’ll just say this.
If you are a beginner or intermediate looking to further your music theory knowledge then this book combined with The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Music Composition then you’ve got everything covered, you can stop buying the rest because you’ll never need anything else unless you want to get into the real advanced stuff like Pistons Harmony, in which case these two Idiot’s Guides are the perfect introduction.
