Fretboard Theory makes a refreshing change to what you expect from the typical guitar book based on the same topic. I’m glad to say Desi has taken a slightly different approach to the vast majority (that I’ve seen) that tackle the subject of mastering the fretboard. All the important stuff is covered, like how to piece the common scale positions together and how they tie into the CAGED system and arpeggios plus a chapter on modes. A few years ago I was getting more into advanced theory, I purchased all the recommended books on harmony and counterpoint such as Fux
, Schoenberg
and Harmony
but found them extremely difficult to follow. Even though my music theory knowledge was quite good at the time, it didn’t seem to help. I’m dying to get my hands on this! If anyone’s bought it then let me know what you think. It sure does look a bit gimmicky but at the same time I get a feeling I could use this thing often. The editorial review on Amazon is nothing more than outrageous … “Master chord theory in minutes” It claims it will help you improvise and solo and a whole bunch of hyped nonsense that I can’t be bothered to repeat. Let’s face it, it’s a wheel! I have no idea what’s included in the micro packed 12 pages of content but I’ll hazard a guess that it’s virtually nothing.
So why on earth then would I be dying to get my hands on it? Read more…
